I'm going to ride out about two more years unless I get fired before then. My immediate supervisor actually mentioned something the other day. I laughed and walked away mid conversation. The feeling was exhilarating.

Wife has to wait two years until her pension is vested and our only child graduates in two years. I'm just riding it out until then, unless I get fired. I'm kind of hoping to get fired tbh

w/e it's your choice and your life, but if i could retire at 49, i'd retire immediately. two years is a lot of time to waste as a wagecuck, even if you don't care if you get fired. my personal goal is to retire in my early 40s (currently 36 with a NW just shy of $1M).

You're in good position. I had less than that at 36 (not counting my home). Currently sitting at 4.8M with no debt, and our daughter really wants to attend a service academy and has the stats for admission. Wife will get free healthcare for the both of us until we go on medicare in two years, and she doesn't want me to quit until she can retire. If I get fired, I can tell her *erkel voice* "Did I do thaaaat?"

4.8M for two people at your ages is more than enough to retire immediately unless you have lots of expenses/VHCOL. you might have to deal with pricey health care through healthcare.gov until you're on Medicare, but it shouldn't be too expensive. also, COBRA lasts 18 months and is probably cheaper and better than healthcare.gov. is your salary very high? that's the only reason i'd keep going for two more years, otherwise the extra savings are insignificant. i don't see a strong argument to go for two more years other than "my wife wants me to." it seems like you can convince her otherwise, unless there's more to your situation that you haven't shared.

she's 47 and is unlikely to cheat at that age. if she divorces because of this, well, he married the wrong person. even after a nasty divorce he can come out with ~$2M in the worst case, which is still enough for a divorced 49 year old to retire with.

Even if I only received 40% in the divorce, it's far more than enough for me to retire very comfortably for the rest of my life. Wife and I are both frugal grounded people and I doubt I'd even care if she cheated. It's been a long time since I cared about her sexuality. We have sex often, but it's different as you age.

Our NW doesn't include the value of our 2M home that is paid off. I would be fine living it up as a sexpat in another country.

We'll be retiring at 49 and 51 and that's a long time to be spending 2-3K per month on health insurance until we're 65. I don't think it's unreasonable to "work" a couple more years in order to get free healthcare for the both of us, and our daughter. Yes, we could both retire comfortably right now, but that health insurance cost doesn't sit well with either of us.

This makes perfect sense to me. If i had to work 2 more years to get a pension and my husband quit id be annoyed. Imagine having to get up every morning while he's sleeping happily.

But if he was fired id be like "oh no, im so sorry." Id suspect though, under the circumstances.
