I can hardly believe that Paramount is sticking to this manic “quippy” nonsense with their Starfleet show. And desperately bringing in legacy cast members like Robert Picardo. Look it’s The Doctor haha! What a clash of generations, wow. Look he’s saying something irreverent!

It's now SNW, nor will it come close to DS9.

But it's not seasons 3-7 VOY bad either.

At this point these new Trek shows are just part of the looting phase. The only real way to stop this shit is for no one to engage with them at all. Not even the YouTube reaction channels (who now primarily prop up the system they claim to hate.)

Also - what are the odds that the creators of this show have literally never watched Star Trek: TNG. 100%? No way someone could watch "The Inner Light" and then think "we need more quips."

Fans suck on the cock of "The Inner Light" more than the actual TNG writers did.

How many follow-up episodes or even REFERENCES were there of the FUCKING LIFETIME that Picard experienced?

The show basically treated it as a one-off episode and hardly mentioned it again.

This is like the iceberg layers of fandom graphic you see. I find mid-tier fans jerk off to Inner Light. Hardcore fans see it as just one among many extraordinary episodes. If someone says the Inner Light is their singular favorite TNG episode I don’t take that as a great sign. It’s like saying Cobain’s greatest work was SLTS. (But the parent poast is still credited.)

That's what classic TOS and TNG was supposed to be. Interesting and moving one-off episodes, like the Twilight Zone. Story arcs are for fags.

Imo it is harder to tell good stories in a contained episodic format than a sprawling serialized one. And there is a balance to be struck where you can maintain an emotional continuity and serial thread within that episodic structure.

Star Trek: TNG and old X Files (first 4 or 5 seasons) were the best at this in my opinion. Each show was primarily driven by standalone episodes that could be enjoyed without needing to obsessively follow some Big MacGuffin. But if you like Big MacGuffins, each show sprinkled them in on occasion. (Black Oil for X Files, Borg for Star Trek.)

Only other show that I can think of that did this at all was Fringe (Fox sci-fi show with Pacey from Dawson's Creek.) It is something that is desperately missing from current TV.

That episode is 33 years old, much closer to the Twilight Zone than to today.

TNG was mostly one-off episodes with a few story-arc episodes sprinkled in. TOS was all one-off episodes.
