and especially below 8K. the domain of monstrous huge squids is mainly the 2K-6Km band. below that, pressure gets so high that it starts fucking up protein folding within cells, and food becomes too scarce to sustain giant masses. that's why the deepest-sea fish are little slimy bottom-feeders that mostly drift slowly near the trench floor and barely need any food to survive.
