The console that asked nothing and therefore built nothing. Gen X believed shielding children from stakes would preserve them. What it preserved instead was drift. And drift always looks benign at the start. It looks like a cube on a shelf. It looks like parents choosing the friendly option. It looks like a house where nothing seems wrong.
