Went a few years back, had a very cute French girl tour guide, said it was her first time giving the tour in English.

There was this fat asian tourist (Malaysian maybe, some kind of jungle asian) who kept asking when we were going to see the remains of St. Michael. I swear it took at least 6 times to explain to her that St. Michael is an angel with no physical relics. Her response was "Oh yeah, I know him, that's the evil angel that became Satan".

180 views though, had a landing near the top to myself for a while bc they were doing some setup to make a stage for the Olympic torch ceremony.

Yes--It's 180. Stay overnight on Mont St Michel. Most visitors come just for the day, or part of the day, so it's very cool to be there overnight when it empties out.

Yes, I went on my honeymoon with my wife. We rented a little house in the town of Cancale. It's about an hour's drive to get to Mont St-Michel. The Abby is a guided tour but it's very, very cool.

My head hurts thinking of all the expense of airport parking or uber to airport, flight to Europe, exchange rates and petrol and hotels it’s just all too much. I’d never be able to retire if I did that, it’s decadent

Yeah, it really was intense. We arranged a family member to drop us off at the airport. That took care of that piece. Then we had a direct flight to CDG. Went to Paris for a few days and took the train to Gare du Nord. Stayed at a crummy airbnb in Montmarte which is right there for a couple of nights. Then took the train back to CDG from Central Paris and rented a Citroen C3 to drive across France in. Wow! What an experience. When we pulled into Cancale, I was exhausted. Everyone spoke French. I began calling the seagulls Madam Mouette.

I have no clue how you afforded all that. That's insane. How did you get from CDG to Paris? That can't be a cheap trip in itself, much less driving all the way across the country in a rented luxury car. I guess for a millionaire it's no big deal.
