A tragic explosion occurred this morning in Castel d'Azzano, in the province of Verona: three Carabinieri officers were killed and at least thirteen soldiers and police officers were injured during an evacuation operation at a farmhouse.

According to initial reports, law enforcement officers were responding to clear the home occupied by three people —two men and a woman, presumably siblings—when a powerful explosion occurred, causing the entire two-story building to collapse. The officers were caught in the collapse.

Firefighters were also on the scene and immediately began rescue operations, but there was nothing the three Carabinieri could do. The entire two-story farmhouse collapsed, engulfing the soldiers and officers. One of the bodies was pulled from the rubble only half an hour ago.

The house was completely destroyed by the explosion and is now engulfed in flames. Dozens of firefighters are still working to put out the blaze, while SUEM (Medical Emergency and Emergency Service) vehicles are working around the clock.

Fortunately, some medical personnel were already in the area to support the police in the evacuation, allowing for immediate intervention.

Among the occupants of the home, a woman was injured. A third family member is currently being sought in the surrounding countryside.
