They kind of fell off for a while after that and it seemed like they were done for until releasing American Idiot which is at worst their 2nd most popular album. |

Yeah i guess most other bands it's more a gradual thing. A creative spurt in the early years of the band followed by less successful attempts to recapture the magic.
