Mine is higher. CAC score was 0.
A recent study found no significant link between elevated Lp(a) and development or progression of coronary artery calcification (despite earlier studies “predicting” there would be)

I feel like they are always looking for a new boogeyman when previous explanations for heart disease haven’t worked out like they modeled, requiring a new explanation (and more expensive drugs) to treat.

brother, are you sure your number is as high as mine? was it nmol or mg/dl?
my CAC test is Tuesday. i am in shock because the alarmism on Reddit/online is truly horrifying. I put my number into the AHA 'risk calculator.' without the Lp(a) my cardiac event risk is 5%. including the number, it increases to 67%, lmfao. i am a walking dead man, unless I nuke my cholesterol to <50 w/ statins, in which case risk is somewhat moderated.
i am reading what you posted with great interest. praying this (((Lp(a)))) thing turns out to be another Pharma scare tactic.
are you doing anything to treat it, or you are convinced it's fraudlies?

Mine was 305 nmol, so if yours is mg that is a lot higher than mine. I need to get it retested just to ensure the number wasn't a fluke.
Ignore alarmism on Reddit, especially for health. Like with most things, Redditors are insane.
I tried statins out of caution but they had a bad effect on me (brain fog, memory, lethargy) so I stopped. I eat healthily and get plenty of fiber, lots of exercise. I know it can't have a direct impact on these numbers but is best for overall health.
All my other numbers, like insulin sensitivity, hsCRP, etc are great. Plug your numbers into ChatGPT to get some insight beyond just alarmist Redditors. There are plenty of people with heart disease that have low to almost no detectable Lp(a).
There are multiple drug trials going on right now for Lp(a) so they haven't yet shown reducing the number even reduces CVD events or mortality rates.

"they haven't yet shown reducing the number even reduces CVD events or mortality rates."
this is my understanding. Niacin will lower it reliably by 1/3, but there is no measurable outcome improvement in studies. so new drugs may be equally useless.
also, some YouTube cardio researcher said that, while Lpa may not increase atherosclerosis/calcium (per your link), the number still is somehow associated with heart disease by some unforeseen mechanism. I don't know.
is your cholesterol normal without statins? what does your cardio think about your reasoning? support or disapprove?

this has been my attitude, but my # is just so insanely high, it got my attention.
do you at least go to a cardio, though? what is his general advice for it?

Lp(a) is genetic, so it remains constant from around age 5, regardless of diet.
I am not overweight at all. Diet is decent, but not fanatical. Rarely eat red meat, but I do eat meat.
I will probably need to start a crazy cholesterol lowering diet now. Because lowering LDL is the only way to mitigate the risk of Lpa.
