The incentives for hard work have been completely rewritten, and I'm not sure any of us can keep pace. In the AI era, bragging that you can write a slightly better prompt than someone 10 IQ points lower than you is like bragging you can run faster on a moving walkway—nobody cares and the output is effectively the same.
I think it’s worse than that in that it also rechannels and rewards only the sociopath strivers who are shameless about ripping people off. It would be so easy for any of us to charge basically every customer over age 40 whatever amount of time anything would take us plus padding and those olds wouldn’t bat an eye at the bill, but in reality it absorbs the most boring and shitty parts of the job and makes them instantaneous. I imagine all the CSLGs of the world have 40x’d their client capacity and if they’ve mentioned AI to existing clients at all they’ve tried to use it to raise rates and bill them more because they’re using “cutting edge technology.”
completely agree. at some point though this type of work product will be totally ubiquitous, and at that point I wonder how the conscientious and talented would differentiate themselves. will it even matter?
