well it did lead to two wars which were ultimately the breaking point for public trust in the government entering a death spiral and eventually totally collapsing
but more than anything it was the last gasp of what America used to be. for a while everyone was in it together and all that gay shit, it was the singular time in my life when it felt like the US was actually one country from coast to coast.
