it would have been a dustbin classic or very, very minor regional new wave hit at best but for the artist's fame. it's a good song but nothing special and just succeeds on bruce's exposure and of course great delivery. he's famous because he has an awesome and relatable persona and the songs swing hard and sound good, not because he's a truly great songwriter or musician. glory days is inferior to a supermarket slop new wave clapper like 'centerfold' by j. geils band. both acts scored a hit off some soft-dick 'hey i'm being ironic!' hand-waiving with a sound they didn't create and both sucked at it. i know OP is just yanking but i have always had a distaste for this song.
