Assume:
-two years to practice with anyone you want
-torpedo bat
-you’ll lead the MLB in plate appearances, one more than the next highest guy
-won’t get injured
-paid the same salary as your current job won’t have to work.
-you’re entire purpose is to hit home runs, you can swing for the fences each at bat.
-the pitcher *might* catch on to what you’re doing and adjust with curveballs etc but not guaranteed.
Could you hit 20?

No fucking way an xo poa is hitting 20.
Jimmy Rollins set record for PA with 778. Managing to hit .125 gets you 97 hits. No way 20 are going out.
Nobody would have the ability to hit balls out to the opposite field, and unlikely the power to go out to center. You'd only be able to pull the ball out, and I don't think an MLB pitcher is going to make enough mistakes middle-in that you could pounce on.
I'm capping the .1% result at 5.

i want to agree, but if we have anyone here who could have played d1 baseball, they would be above zero
maybe even d2 or d3 players would be above zero
those people would have the bat speed and coordination to get lucky
you disagree?

yes, you can bench more than maddux so you'd hit more homeruns.
i'll assume you are kidding and move on
as an 18 year old at rookie ball, maddux goes 0 for 14 with 9 strikouts
next year at a ball, 21 ab, 5 hits, 0 hr
next year at aa and aaa, 25 ab, 5 hits, 1 hr
then majors
those ba are .000, .238, .200
he hits 5 hr in 1591 ab with a .171 ba as a major leaguer over 23 season

Yeah but the poster is a way better athlete than Greg Maddux (who won 18 gold gloves)

Maddux was a pitcher. Tell me you don’t know baseball without me telling you you don’t know baseball.
You’re basically even with maddux because he never practiced hitting. And he still got lucky here and there and hit a home run. Now imagine having two years of practicing ONLY hitting home runs, working out to hit home runs etc.
You’re proving my point.

Better question would be 5. And no, I don’t think so.
If it’s a freebie hypo I’d take a shot at 5. If I’m putting something real on the line, I wouldn’t go above 1.

Sign me up for 1 or 2.
Even pitchers get lucky and they dont practice swinging at all. If a lawyer put in serious time in the years preceding, our odds are at least as good as a pitcher.

I’ll crush the ball so hard they are gonna ask me to pitch as well
Might take a year or two but I expect to dominate that too
At that point they might ask em to be a crossover star. I’ll probably turn down nfl (concussion risk) but all for nba. Think I could put up a 20 ppg avg after some practice
