It means that your circumstances and lifestyle will become normal for you, good or bad, and your expectations and contenment will adjust to that baseline, not that you'll get sick of your circumstances if they're good.
And RSF is the poster child for hedonic treadmill. While many of us think we'd be psyched for decades to come if we could travel around the world in the lap of luxury with few responsibilities, not sending "thank" emails, it's just his normal, quotidian life. It's his baseline, and his day-to-day happiness has probably adjusted accordingly. |
