Homes purchased much cheaper around 2010. She has a teacher's pension of $4,200 a month, my Tax free VA disability check is $4,500. I'm guessing her pension is worth around 1.1mm, and my VA is about 1.5 mm. My 401k is currently around 1.4 mm. I probably have 600K in vehicles, boats, guns, etc. Neither of us have any debt, and we both have free healthcare. Kids college is paid for. I'm sure I'm missing something, but we're fine and can live on the pension income alone. I know I'm just an oilfield worker, but I've averaged about 250-300K a year for the last decade. Certainly not wealthy, but it's afforded me a really good lifestyle.
If anyone can think of a reason why I shouldn't retire, let me know. I get zero satisfaction from working and would be much more fulfilled by enjoying my hobbies. Fat GF will probably substitute teach whenever she feels like it. I'm not sure how we stack up to many other retirees, but I'd imagine we're in the top 10% of all retirees. I'm literally the dumbest poaster to ever contribute here, so I don't know how I ended up with a top 10% outcome. |
