you're making $1.5 mil+ a year (all blood money). let's say $1.5 mil before taxes. that's ~$900k after taxes. do this for a decade and you'll have ~$10 mil. stick it in bonds and make 5% or $500k/year doing nothing. you're done then

everyone always compares themselves to the next rung or two higher, never rungs below. this is a universal rule. chandler sees CSLG making $15 mil a year basically not working anymore and he feels poor - but that's just because chandler sucks

I agree with this. I'm thinking about quitting my current job because it leaves me completely stuck and I'm not sure that I'll ever make enough to take care of my family.
I just looked over the numbers for this week and here's where I currently stand:
Cash + Taxable Brokerage: $128,141.10
Retirement Accounts: $1,252,894.35
529 College Savings Accounts: $180,451.77
Alternatives: $187,291.94
Home Equity: $70,406.61
Net Worth: $1,819,185.77

You’re truly rich when you can do whatever the fuck you want funded by your capital / portfolio. That’s it. It’s very hard to get to the point before you’re an old fuck and there’s also a negative feedback loop (as you earn more you tend to inflate your lifestyle which puts that mark farther out).

This is key.
You have to set your lifestyle & COL at a reasonable lower point and maintain that setpoint going forward.
Lifestyle creep is an addiction: we always want more, more, more; and whenever we get a hit, it's never as good as the last.
