if you make guns illegal, the only people who will have guns is bad guys. and bad guys will be emboldened by the knowledge that no good guys have guns. also given the number of guns in society it would be unrealistic to remove them all. and you wouldn't want to remove/confiscate them all, because our founders put into place the 2nd amendment, as a safeguard to prevent government tyranny. furthermore self defense is a human right.

Then you get to the argument about feasibility. It's a non-starter in the US even some lib states like Vermont love guns. Majority of states are to the hilt about gun ownership/will never back down. So it's a total waste of time and it only exists in lib circles as a shibboleth to show signal your virtue to other members of the tribe (also the Tribe ifyky). But also even in heavily gun controlled places like the EU gun crime is still on the rise (directly connected to the rise of third world migrants who bring with them bad behavior).

You can never fully correct for human behavior. But there are people who behave more or less badly. For instance there are more murders in California by any non-gun means than there are in Canada by any means including guns, that has a similar population. There is a measurable state of violence of a group of people that has exactly zero to do with guns.

And yes obviously the Madisonian argument about an armed populace being intractable to a tyrannical government. Also look at CNN libs going buckwild cheering the Ukranian government handing out guns to everybody in the wake of the Russian invasion. Suddenly libs love guns.
