Her follow up record transitioned to more of a generic pop sound. I think she did a disservice to the original fanbase. If you read the comments there's endless feuding between her old fans and new ones over whey she was ever actually an indie pop queen or whether her earliest songs were actually just mainstream pop music.
The problem with being a generic pop star is that only a really small number of people can do it. You have to be really hot and good looking and if you're white it helps to be blonde, or have gigantic boobs like Katy Perry. To be a big star you have to be Kesha, Taylor, Sabrina Carpenter.
Lorde abandoned the one thing that made her fresh, the wordy lyrics and the indie sound. Not everyone can be a Hot Chick. |
