This may be what Trump means by "interesting times ahead." I've read from numerous sources that Russia has already been protecting its refineries with multiple Pantsir and other air defense systems, but Ukraine has still managed to knock out a bunch of them with drones which are basically just remote-controlled Cessnas. Think what actual cruise missiles will be able to do against shitty Russian air defenses. |

My best read on Trump/Ukraine is that he has no sympathy at all for Ukraine, on an emotional level, but he badly wants to get credit for ending the war as he said he would do. And he recognizes that it is Russia, not Ukraine, which is making maximalist and unrealistic demands at this point. And since he isn't willing to give Ukraine any more US aid, the only lever he has left to pressure Russia is by economic sanctions and military strikes against refineries, etc. |
