the action scenes were pretty good but hardly enough of them. the race themes would be been tolerable if i had more action.
reminded me of from dusk til dawn but woke and boring. |

sorry it didn't work
i don't like woke stuff at all but i'm not against, y'know, social commentary, and i thought it was a little more interesting because it didn't just do a one to one mapping of 'racists are vampires' which would have sucked
some of the cultural appropriation stuff is a little heavy handed (with white people stealing the blues or whatever) but i thought that having the main vampire be an irish guy plays around with oppression in less obvious ways
if you take what the vampires say at face value they're looking to handle oppression by going for a melting pot where they're all equal and share everything and the movie contrasts that with the apparent value of an afro-centric community. which is interesting.
