Try leaving it in bigger chunks and par boiling for 3 or 4 minutes. Then throw it in the oven under very high heat, even a broiler. It will be both more tender and more charred.

This works for a lot of vegetables. Especially potatoes, which should almost always be cooked this way.

I don't think that most people boil broccoli anymore outside of proles making it with cheese sauce on top, I will usually roast but a quick stir fry is a fine method too

I usually do it in a pan with something else. I like to precook some salmon and then flake it up in a pan, add some lemon juice and zest and some spices, add the chopped broccoli. Gets it real succulent. Also cook it with scrambled eggs a lot. I add broccoli wherever I can, you can get it to a real satisfying succulence and texture
