nah, not flame. find most of their stuff way too saccharine.
friend played them versus cocker on WALHFMF in the car the other day and their handling of their own material was so comparatively second rate i just wanted it to end.

i'll give it a try.
on the mix, i remember trying to listen to one of their more famous songs - can't even recall which one - and the audio simply walked back and forth left to right. which probably seemed artistic and interesting at the time, but was just obnoxious to listen to

The Beatles
still think they're great, just don't really listen to them now

My tastes have also expanded so much that now I find myself spending more time listening to stuff that's new to me than I do relistening to what I had on repeat during high school
I go through 3-6 month phases where I listen on repeat to a few bands in a genre and then move to something else for awhile

Apropos of nothing you remind me of one of my friends growing up. He was a bodybuilder who tried to join the military but his mom made up a bunch of shit about him so he couldn't join. He ended up becoming extremely jacked and enormous.
He was really into black and white thinking and had extreme views on everything. If you tried to argue with him he'd flip out. Ended up getting married to a chick and they receded from the world together and barely communicate with anyone else.
The only genre of music he liked was death metal and he only listened to the most obscure bands. He had the most esoteric criteria for liking something. It had to be a demo record made between 1985 and 1993 or something. It amused me to catalog the nuances of his unusual musical preferences. Anything that did not meet this highly specialized criteria was ex communicated. He wouldn't consider it at all.
I'm not saying you're like him in every way but you just remind me of him sometimes. What's funny is that he became a lib eventually but he was one of the most influential people in turning me conservative. His rigorous argumentation and legal mind for splitting unbelievably tiny hairs pushed me over to the other side. Last I heard he was some sort of Bernie Bro obsessed with single payer health insurance. I think he really wanted the government to give him steroids or something.

Never really been into much metal, but have gotten into it more recently when lifting. XO actually got me into Metallica back in like 2018, but beyond that haven't really listened to much. Starting to really like Pantera and Kublai Khan, TX. Growing up has meant a gradual broadening of my music taste, never used to be able to enjoy chill or melancholic music and now I listen to Fleetwood Mac a lot.

Yeah his mom was genuinely insane. She cleaned out his dad in the divorce and got everything. His dad lived in a trailer and drank alone and she lived in a huge house in the suburbs. And later on she sued him again to pay for their son's college tuition and won. Not sure how this guy survived.
I'm glad you like Fleetwood Mac. This guy didn't even listen to any mainstream metal. His favorite bands were Morbid Angel, Death, and Bathory.

I don't listen to any of the 90s bands really anymore and kind of cringe when I hear them.
I'm not going to list all of them but i would never tune into STP or Green Day or whatever I listened to at the time.
Here are my big ones:
pavement (truly sucks, wow, every normal person was right)
smashing pumpkins (his voice is now impossible to hear. never bothered me as a kid. i used to listen the fuck out of siamese dream. must have been a top 1%er)
90s bands that i still listen to are Blur, Radiohead, NIN, Air

same with nirvana. part of the problem is they just didn't make enough music.
still regularly queue up AIC though

I also listen to AIC more frequently because it's great workout music (I do beginner pilates 2x a week)
I listen to bands like Brian Jonestown Massacre *more* often now than in the 90s, probably because I didn't burn out on them.
STP still holds up although the philistines on xo will bash me for this. Tiny Music is a legitimate masterpiece.

Thots on Everything In Its Right Place, Optimistic, Idioteque, Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong (Live), There There, Black Star, True Love Waits (Live in Oslo), Just, You and Whose Army, Talk Show Host?

Half of these were new to me
- Everything In Its Right Place: a little too fractured/noisy for me
- Optimistic: not bad but didn't do much for me
- Idioteque: don't like, too EDM-y for me
- Pyramid Song: not sad enough to enjoy this
- I Might Be Wrong (Live): great riff, felt like it really would have been better if it built to more of a crescendo like a third or so of their songs do
- There There: as is a common theme with many of these, liked the last third much better than the first two
- Black Star: I like this a lot, very listenable chill rainy day music. Guitar work is great.
- True Love Waits (Live in Oslo): very easy listening, enjoyed a lot
- Just: I like this quite well, follows the structure of some of their best songs. I think they're best when largely playing atonal rock, rather than some of their more experimental/noisy stuff like Everything In Its Right Place.
- You and Whose Army: first half a little too waily for me without much instrumentation. I think one of the things I like best about the Radiohead I do like is their riffs.
- Talk Show Host: again, first half too slow and the build isn't to a satisfying conclusion like, for example, I find Iron Lung to have

belle and sebastian. turns out they are twee fag shit. that said, they do have 3 or so really great records.
smiths. i still love them, but i played them out too much.
clash. same thing
modest mouse. they got really bland after going with a major. moon & antarctica was great, then the next one was decent, after that they just became a pop band.

I'm just now starting to enjoy the Smiths
Have never liked the clash beyond guns of Brixton and London calling
Modest mouse was college music for me, and anytime I have studying type work to do I put them back on repeat

clash are 180 but not really if you don't love punk.
early MM is so good.

I remember really enjoying some of John Frusciante's solo work. I wonder if it holds up after all these years. Definitely felt deeper, weirder, and less hits-driven than RHCP
edit: it holds up, the guy is a genius, albeit often indecipherable
