I’ve been posting continuously since 2005. I don’t remember when I first say this new poster calling himself “Halford.” It probably would have been around 2012. IMO his posting schtick was weak as fuck -- a lot of attention-seeking stuff targeting gays, blacks, and other marginalized groups. As a confirmed shitlib, I didn’t like that stuff, but I mostly ignored him. At some point in the fall of 2013 we engaged and bickered a lot, and I came up with this meme that he's a cripple in a wheelchair. I force-memed it enough that it caught-on, and he kinda played along.
By this point I’d posted enough personal stuff that he started shit-posting about me marrying a black lady and having (at that time just one) transkid. I doubled-down on the wheelchair stuff, and we were really at each other’s throats by the end of the year. Then Christmas 2013 came, and we were posting at the same time. I forget who initiated it, but one of us posted in a thread something like “hey man, we’ve fought a lot, but Merry Christmas.” The other one replied basically the same, and from that point on we mostly ignored each other’s most extreme shit-posting. (Come to think of it, it’s kinda like how consuelatp and I came to terms).
Anyway, my wife relapsed in the winter of 2014. I didn’t post about it until that summer, after I’d sold our SF house and moved with the kids to Marin. A few years passed, in which I filed for divorce, and the kids and I got settled into Marin.
On Christmas Eve 2016, after the kids had gone to bed, my then-ex called. She said she was done with her run, and wanted to see if I could find her a treatment center. Within the next day or two I posted about that development here. In one of those threads, Halford posted something about how he knows all about this stuff, “email me brother,” and posted a throwaway.
I emailed him within a day or two and he instantly replied, explaining how he’d been a heroin addict but had been clean for several years, and knew all their behaviors. I had posted by that time how I’d taken her to plenty detoxes, and how she’d walk right out 24 hours after checking in. He explained to me that the only solution for heroin-heads is to get them to an extremely remote place where they can’t just call their dopehead friends to come pick them up. At this time he was living in Idaho, but had himself gotten clean at a place in Washington, and said he’d check with his contacts there if they’d be able to take her. The funny thing about Halford’s emails is that he used the word “rad” all the time – “these guys in WA are rad;” “it’s rad how you’ve moved on with the kids,” stuff like that.
Anyway, he put me in contact with this outfit in Long Beach, WA, and a lady called “Tamara.” She was super nice, and sorted out the details with the treatment center. By around January 10, they’d lined up a spot for her, and needed me to fly her to Portland, where Tamara said that Halford would pick her up at the airport and take her to Long Beach. So I bought her a one-way ticket from Oakland to Portland, and on January 14, 2014, swooped down to this SF hotel where she was staying, and took her for an afternoon flight to Portland. She was pretty chill, but the one hilarious thing is that she needed to shoot up in that bathroom next to the baggage claim at OAK, to ensure that she’d be cool for the flight to PDX.
After that point I didn’t hear much. Halford and I had communicated only by email, so I didn’t have his number. But after she landed in Portland, she texted me to confirm that Halford had met her there and was taking her to Long Beach.
She went directly into detox, so I didn’t hear from her for a few days. Then she started calling once she was in the residential treatment side, and everything was going well. I had a deposition of Costco in Seattle in February, so on Super Bowl Sunday of that year I flew to PDX and rented a car to drive up to Long Beach en route to Seattle. The treatment center was really nice, and she was completely normal.
She spent six months there, and then came back to the kids and I in Marin in July 2017. At some point in the following months I asked if she’d heard from Halford (who was MIA and had stopped posting by this time). She tearfully confessed that on the day he’d picked her up at PDX, it was heavily snowing or something, so they stopped at a hotel in Astoria, WA, to finish the journey the next day. Somehow the conversation turned to heroin, and they scored that night. But the next day he took her to the treatment center in Long Beach, and dutifully dropped her off.
A few days after hearing this story, I texted Tamara to ask if she’d heard from him. She said he’d died of an overdose back in January of that year. But just to be clear, he was fine when he dropped her off, and neither she nor I killed him.
Given the PNW location of these events, I envision him in the role of a heroic salmon, who returns to its place of birth to give rise to a new generation, and dies in the process. May he rest in peace.

This is like a fucking Kurosawa movie. I'm 90% sure Tamir told me that he'd ODed *and died*, but it's conceivable that she only said he'd ODed, and I just assumed he'd died because he'd stopped posting and stopped replying to my emails. But it's weird that there's no mention in that dude's obits about any involvement in the sobriety community or whatever.
Also, Halford stopped posting for more than a year before that dude died.
Edit: Yeah, that can't be him. He would've mentioned something to me about having kids.

recovering addicts are the best resource for current addicts.
you're being awfully vicious to epah itt considering he made it to honor halford and you discovered an addict friend for your past passed away years after you lost contact.
what should epah have done? "sorry i'm going to decline your help because i don't want to risk my wife getting you hooked again"?

that's a far too tendentiously naive perspective.
he scored heroin for a woman he was supposed to be helping out, putting both himself and your wife at risk. really terrible judgment. he had no business getting involved.
your wife didn't need a ride from him. you could have paid for a car service or whatever.
and predictably, neither person was helped in the end.

I'm certain this is ~80% true and ~20% lies/made up because you either think it's funny or just can't help yourself.
However I have no idea which 20% is made up. that's how I know EPAH has an extremely high IQ

so in addition to grooming and abusing your sons to the point that they mutilated themselves and enabling your drug addict wife past the point of no return, you also are responsible for the death of a good poaster because you were too busy (probably suing yet another small business) to drive your crackwhore wife to rehab yourself?
you're just an all around great guy! seems like ditching the whole mormon thing and becoming a west coast faggot has worked out really well for you!

1) Your claim that you don't know his name is not credible. If this was a trial you would get destroyed under cross-examination on that statement alone and probably impeached
2) Doobs said you were lying about this the last time he posted here. Your response?

You need to understand that opioid withdrawal is the most agonizing experience known to humankind. Childbirth is a fucking walk in the park by comparison. I have known several women who have done both, and they all said, "Yeah, given the choice, I would go into labor again rather than withdrawing. No hesitation whatsoever." I have heard it described as having every square millimeter of your body covered in severe paper cuts while you run a 105 degree fever. It is literally hell on earth.
The saddest part is that once you have a tolerance for opioids, you don't even get high any more. You have to get a hit just to fell normal again. This is why really hardcore addicts will do insane stuff like take super high doses of fentanyl or mix it with benzos or whatever, because they don't feel anything otherwise.
And there is really no way to quit without being sick for a while. If you do it at an inpatient detox, they can give you some medications to make it a little less agonizing, but it's still pretty hellish. So, quitting is a pretty scary proposition.
The other thing to keep in mind is that when you are a hardcore opioid addict, you know what you are going to do every day: Find money to get drugs, and then get drugs. All of your social relationships revolve around these two things as well. Aside from the horrifying withdrawals, getting sober and staying sober basically means that you have to find a new job and a completely new set of friends.
TLDR: There are lots of reasons why an opioid habit is really hard to kick.

Lord PiddleSnout, the Goutiest, Girthiest, Most-Fully ERECT Poaster
EVER

Looks like I'd misrecalled the dates a bit -- somehow he started trying to help as of Dec. 10, then she randomly called on Christmas saying that she was done running. Here's his first email:

This place is rad, I know the people in charge, 180 dudes. There is something similar in CO, if that's better. Phoenix recovery. I visit both once a month or so. If she wants in I can speak to the head and get her set up. These guys don't give up on people, been out many a night tracking down people with the founder. Let me know if you want more info. I have seen miracles at these places my friend.

More of the thread. It's weird though, maybe I didn't actually ever talk to him on the phone, maybe it was only this "Louis" fellow:

sorry, apparently shit has been crazy around pv with he holidays and relapses. I will be on Louis to call you tomorrow. Your patience is appreciated brother, personally I am pissed it has taken this long, but I can only do so much from here, but I will do whatever I can and as soon as possible before another one is lost. I know a few long term brothers lost it on new years, but, instead of showing them the door Sean and Louis have done everything to get them back, these guys don't give up easily, but that takes time. If they are busy tomorrow, I will give you a call. Take care brother.

Man, thank you. I'm happy to hear possibilities from these guys whenever they have a minute. I'm hopeful [she] will be ready to go at whatever convenient time. I've taken her to around seven places in the Bay Area, but once she catches her breath after 2-3 days, she just walks right out. Of course I recognize that it takes a personal spiritual change to really get there, but I feel like the geographical barrier of being in a far-removed place would be helpful.

Heroin addiction, which doesn't exist anymore- they've all moved on to fentanyl- is 100% a full time job. We're talking youre either robbing Walgreens to sell shit to a "fence" or sucking dick off the street for $20, constantly, or youre the gf of a dealer or a guy who is doing the above things. Every last fucking detail about fetty addiction is anti-society, including how you live (homeless, or taxpayer subsidized apartment) what you eat (handouts or food stolen from Safeway), your frequent medical needs (but not too frequent, cant afford to be hospitalized or you wont get your fatty, therefore you let small infections fester to the point that only IV antibiotics will help)... this shit is 100% Satanic and if you don't believe that Satan is real, spend a week in the Tenderloin and you will believe in the battle of angels and demons like never before
