You have a setting turned on that automatically adjusts your temperature to (((save))) energy. They annoyingly run a campaign every spring and fall that tricks people into defaulting to the setting being turned on if you make One Wrong Click. You just need to turn that off and you'll have an ordinary working thermostat with some cool features (like cool cycling, direct sun adjustment, active hours logging) that you can control remotely and doesn't feel like it has a mind of its own.

Turn it off directly on each thermostat under settings. Make sure you're updated to the latest firmware. Yes, this is life in the 2025 hellscape.

nests are possibly the most annoying smart devices.
1. you need the app. if you are trying to manage a nest without the app, you are in for a lot of pain trying to do it via the thermostat itself. you need the app to go into the SCHEDULE to see why it is doing what it is doing.
2. when you first install a nest, it has a 2 week "learning" cycle to learn your schedule. so if in those 2 weeks on mondays you suddenly had to run out of the house for half the day for whatever reason, the nest will think thats normal and it will go into "away/eco" mode on mondays. to avoid this, you have to turn off AUTO SCHEDULE on the nest which disables the thermo from learning and scheduling. it will take the piece of shit weeks to "unlearn" that you are actually home on mondays.
3. you need to know what phones are tied to your nests to determine HOME/AWAY. nests goes from normal to eco mode depending on if it thinks someone is home. it does this by geo fencing cell phones. so if just your wifes phone is tied to the nest, and she leaves the house, but not yours, thermo goes into ECO mode which is default 60/80, meaning it will not heat until 60, and will not cool until 80. you can walk up to it and set it manually during this time, but you really need to get home/away managed correctly or your life will be hell.
4. if you accidentally clicked to enroll with your electricity provider, you are getting ass raped by your electrical company now because they control you thermo. every season, you will get offered to save like $20 if you enroll in this feature. if you do, the electrical company now controls your thermo and will adjust it during "peak" times. so when it is absolutely scorching outside, the electrical company will raise the temperature in your home to save electricity while your non-nest neighbor is chilling at 65 degrees. vice versa in winter. to get rid of this, i had to be transferred between half a dozen depts at my electrical company and finally sign a form stating that i no longer wanted them to control my thermos. they seemed genuinely surprised that i did not want to save $20 a year.
5. if you subscribe to NEST RENEW it is similar to the above but now google controls your nest when it wants all in the name of "efficiency". google will determine the most efficient temperatures for you when it wants and adjust your thermos. to get rid of this, you have to log into the app, disable this feature AND go the nest renew website and UNSUBSCRIBE from this feature. when you go to the website, you have to use the same login as whatever you registered your nest with.
for a while there, i was dealing with nests in my home because i do smart integration in my home and it was one of the few thermos out there that has nice api integration - this was like 8 years ago - google has since got rid of public api integration to nests. but even if you are doing smart intergration, i would still highly suggest you get rid of nests because of the stupid reasons stated above. i ended up putting in some honeywells once they released smart thermos and they matured a bit.
nests absolutely suck ass.
