The guy that blows himself up or gets blasted by enemy forces on his first day of infantry combat sure as shit is not better off as a result. The peasants who get bombed and starved would probably prefer a more chill existence. These are pawns who either literally have no agency or are put in such desperate circumstances by elites that war starts to look pretty good as it at least involves going outside and pursuing objectives with a slim possibility of survival and victory.
On the other hand elites are insulated from harms (mostly) and get to expand own authority, eliminate rivals, and preside over “war funding” slush funds. And when hostilities wind to an end, they buy up assets cheap with no process and profit off reconstruction. Volatility is bad for some financiers who wind up on the wrong end of trades, but overall good for the financial sector and continued consolidation of power by elites over stubborn holdouts. The long game here is to make sure all the petrodollars keep turning in ways that permit global elites to take their cuts rather than benefiting locals or creating independent power centers. If you want to understand that the ethnic conflict is a sideshow, look at all the NYC Jews screaming about antisemitism at American colleges while continuing to run investments for Abu Dhabi, Saudi, etc. at huge mutual profits while saying nothing at all about Arab politics.
This does not require a detailed written conspiracy where 100 decision makers sit in the same room and decide what wars to start - just an accumulation of decisions to ostracize pacifists and truthtellers from wealth and power, decades of bribery to anyone in a position to support the growth of the MIC, and enormous efforts to build a media apparatus completely devoted to sensationalism and looking at what happened today and what might happen tomorrow with no critical thinking whatsoever. No one in the history of the world has ever built a huge military not to use it. Also never forget that the average person is profoundly dumb, like they don’t understand even CNN or Fox News analysis and process it on an emotional/tribal level focusing mainly on the pretty or scary pictures rather than confusing words and logic. As long as there are profits to be extracted, elites will continue to rile up the morons. |
