It’s official. My daughter was offered a spot on an elite soccer team.

For me, there's absolutely nothing else I'd rather do on the weekends than drive my kids around to their sporting events. I genuinely mean that. This coming weekend, I'll have my 2 older kids the whole morning saturday and sunday as they both have games. We get up early, get a bagel, get to the field early so the 3 of us can kick the ball around and have fun before the rest of the team gets there. I hang out with the one who's not playing, then we drive to the next game and the roles reverse. Maybe stop for lunch on the ride home.
I feel fortunate that I get to do this and cherish every minute of it.
I do agree with you that the travel requirements for the highest leagues (e.g. ECNL, GA and MLSNext) are outrageous, but that won't come for another couple years and will depend entirely on how serious my kids are about soccer. There's no reason, for example, to drive 4 hours each way for a single U14 soccer game. This model is for hyper competitive parents, not the kids. I'm sure they'd be perfectly content playing other children who live closer to them.

My oldest is enjoying swim team and improving with each go, but he’s not in the top of the pack. Maybe he stays with it though.
My daughter loves swim team and gymnastics.
My middle son is now out of the dojo.
Good times are ahead.
