how is it that the world's shorelines are so stable over centuries

not a "climate change" poast
shouldn't currents, natural rising and falling of ocean levels, regional flooding, etc. change the shape of the coast pretty dramatically over the years

in danang in span of less than a year a chunk of the shoreline just eroded
same shit happened recently in gold coast, australia
beaches actually are never stable, they are constantly changing

go to any random beach town in the us and there are houses that have been there for a century or more (or new houses in the same place), 150 yards from the water. even without man-made reinforcements.
why doesn't the shore randomly eat up some of these houses or leave them 1,000 yards from the water over the course of a few years or decades. rivers can shift pretty dramatically for more obvious reasons, why not shores.

buddy you are answering my question with my question
why does it take thousands of years, why not a few years. it's sand and soil against powerful currents and waves. nigga heil hitler.

yeah why doesn't it
(at least the shores, at elevation it's safe and in some parts it's just bedrock)

they do
buildings literally on the beach do not naturally stay there for hundreds of years or more -- why do you think almost all our examples, even in Europe, are from the past 100-150 years? these days there's a ton of shit that gets done to preserve shorelines. the beach where I grew up for instance constantly had sand pumped in -- it's just called "beach renourishment" so nobody questions paying for it

At least on the Jersey shore, the Army Corps of Engineers replenishes the sand so erosion doesn’t get to the beachfront homes. Your tax dollars at work.
You can tell how rich a shore town is by how much erosion is permitted. Very little in the rich ones. Some in the poorer ones. Then you have the redneck ones on the Delaware Bay that are basically gone.
