Like Amazon Coin or Apple Coin or Tesla Coin? Why is there no race among large corps to become the peoples’ currency of choice? No one is trying to use an existing well-known brand to launch one of these things and be first to market. Why?

Facebook got their shit pushed in by the Fed and every other country’s regulators for trying to launch their own coin (diem). Governments aren’t about to cede sovereignty over currency without a fight. They’d have antitrust pwned Zuck and he knew it.

But they allow smaller players to do it to the tune of trillions in market cap?

Zuck already had too much to lose. No one has any idea who those Tether sumbitches even are. Nakamodo is still anonymous somehow.

Also, is total real-coin value that high now? I guess it’s no wonder it’s gotten jammed into so many treasury companies and ETFs and whatnot.

ETA: This is the rare example of a reverse, “You can just do things.” Usually you can just do things if you’re rich. You can just do *this* thing *only* if you’re not already.

why would an established megacorp run a ponzi scheme scam lol (that's what shitcoins are, literal ponzi scheme scams, every single one of them). they're already insanely profitable

like the above poaster said, meta tried to make their own legit currency and the world's governments shut them down

a lot of companies do kind of run their own internal shitcoins. for example, airlines do miles programs, other companies do various kinds of rewards, etc. they're basically minting their own fake currency and handing it out to customers to incentivize customer spending on their products

They already do this, there's Apple Store Credit and Google Play balance, they are "coins" for their universes.
