Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz Processor 2.3GHz
16 GB DIMM
750 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive

or, for $1100
Intel Core i5 2450M Processor 2.5GHz (3MB Cache)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics
worth the extra $400?

tell me what games you play and i'll tell you if it's stupid, in all likelihood it is stupid, also now isn't the greatest time to be buying this shit anywayz (i did because i have to).
this is basically complete overkill btw, u'd be more than satisfied with a laptop at half the price.

i just got diablo 3 adn i couldnt kill a boss because my laptop gfx is too shitty. so i'm kind of overcompensating. the only PC games i've played lately are Starcraft 2 and diablo 3
what would you suggest?
my preferences:
- laptop
- 17 inch
- can run non state of the art games
- EDIT: wont be fucking useless in 3 years
- EDIT2: ideally i would like to order from amazon cause i have a gift card, but that's only a preference and not a req
- that's it
why is it a bad time to buy laptops now?

well it's not a bad time, but there are time frames you want to work with, with most products, i mean if you're really in need of a new system go for it, but if you can wait it out a year there's gonna be a gigantic jump in processing power next year, and the current gen stuff will drop in price like a rock and the next gen stuff will be crazy fast, ivybridge stuff isn't much of a jump from sandybridge. This is akin to buying a car new when it's in the last year of it's cycle.

slightly worse specs, but you get a slimmer computer with 17" of 1080P, and it should be sufficient for what your gaming needs are for the next 3 years, and this is probably the more durable laptop, comes in at under 1,000 with that coupon i showed u above.
you can upgrade the harddrive, and RAM as well, to make it more similar to the specs of the computers u listed and you'll still save a few hundred bucks and have a superior quality laptop.

anyone who says they can notice the difference between 7200 and 5400 is probably full of shit, if you want to get an SSD that's fine, but you're not gonna notice much difference between non SSD harddrives
intel's coming out with a new chipset next year.
i like the first system but the big knock on it would be that the display resolution is low.
if you're playing diablo and sc2 (and heart of swarm soon), this sytem will easily meet your needs (i'd go with the first system i picked the dv6).

buy a desktop for about 1100 and a laptop for 600 or so and be very happy with both.
