And upon second glacne I see the thread title is like "90s-2010 alternative". But I read it as 1990-2000, and I think most people associate "alternative rock" with that decade. So loving Limp Bizkit and not really knowing Janes was just a huge tell that he came of age when he did, and 99% of the bands named above he would not really know, or would google in the moment. Nothing *wrong* with being whatever age you are. I would have to google 70s bands, or would write things like "Yeah I know one T. Rex song". But Janes Addiction is emblematic because they spearheaded the Gen-X "alternative" moment for a few years, not least through Lollapalooza drawing connecting points between shoegazers, greasy haired grungers, rappers, etc etc. Not to mention birthing other momentous things like Lilith Fair, assorted hippie festivals, re-booting Woodstock, etc. I wouldnt begrudge anyone hating Janes, even tho I like 3 of their albums a lot. Nearly all of their songs recycle the same chords over and over again. They were brilliant tunesmiths and deserve a lot of credit.
