I can't think of a time when I heard a lawyer introduce themselves to another lawyer as "a civil attorney" because in that case you would just state your practice area.

The phrase “civil attorney” isn’t standard lawyer-to-lawyer terminology in the U.S. • Big firm lawyers almost never use it. So: it’s mostly a layman-facing phrase, used more in small firm / generalist settings than in biglaw.
