i'd leave the house at like 9-10 am and come back in the evening. ran all around the place. i grew up in bowie, md, which is about 30 mins outside dc and a planned community. at the time, it was a perfect example of white suburbia (it is now 90% minorities).
i started skateboarding at 11 years old. i'd skate all over town and get chased off from strip malls and whatnot.

Spent a good amount of time outdoors, mostly with family and/or family friends. My K-8 school, despite being an under-funded public school, had a fun summer program that I did for several years. I lived a block away from school, which helped. Lots of trips within driving distance with family and/or family friends. I had a growth spurt the summer before 8th grade and reached my adult height of 6' 2", which automatically made me a "cool" kid who played sports and was invited to parties with other "cool" kids.
The summer before high school, we moved so that my brother and I wouldn't go to the local high school, which was a very terrible public school. We moved to the tiny "poor" part of an otherwise UMC suburb. I didn't fit in because nearly everyone around me came from money and lived in a bubble, whereas I had no money and lived through poverty first-hand. The "cool" kids in a UMC suburb are unbelievably lame. Still had friends, but I spent more time in front of screens during my high school years.

I'm a very early millennial, so had more of a gen x experience than millennial. I thank God for that
Would wake up and watch cartoons if there were any. By late morning I'd be out with friends riding bikes, playing football, or just walking around town to find shit to do
We'd play Nintendo or Genesis if something new had come out. Sometimes go to the local pool to swim and play shit like marco polo and tag and shit
Never any helmets. Never any adult chaperones. Just fucking freedom and boredom and fulfillment all rolled up in one

My parents both worked in a factory, so they were gone from 6:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. 5 days/week. Until I was 10 I had a babysitter, but afterward I was on my own, though the babysitter didn't sit on me too hard. I pretty much did what I wanted with no supervision.
Parents were not involved in what the kids did. They didn't go to games, didn't drive us places, and generally ignored us unless we were causing problems. When I started playing little league there were no parents ever at practice and only a few at the games. Basically kids and adults lived in parallel worlds.
I rode my bike all over town. We had an endless workup baseball game running on a nearby vacant lot. You walked on in the outfield and as each batter was out advanced a position until you got to hit. Sometimes there would be 20 kids on the field so it might take an hour to get to bat. Oh, the heartbreak of fouling out on the first pitch!
At night we sometimes played kick the can in the dark at my friend's house a few blocks away.
When TV wrestling became a thing in about 1957 we started wrestling. We would do it at somebody's house where the parents weren't home.
After the sitter stopped coming I had to do chores every day: wash the dishes, make the bed, and dust the house. Took maybe an hour and I hated it. If I didn't enough grease off the cast iron skillets my mother would yell at me.
Often I would go to the corner grocery store for breakfast: a dime bought a Coke and a Zero candy bar. My Aunt owned another grocery store. Sometimes I would go there and hang out. My mother and she didn't get along, so I had to sneak. That's where I met my first lesbian. Her dad had no fingers and drove a cab. His nickname was "Nub." She moved to West Hollywood. Think she's det now.
Saturdays were movie day: ten cents admission for a double feature western/horror movie, then 15 cents for a Coke and popcorn. The movie was so full of screaming kids nobody could hear the dialog. Starting in sixth grade I would sit with various girls and try to kiss and cop a feel. Never got very far - they were not very cooperative. I still talk with four of them from time to time. One has Parkinson's, one looks very old and sick, one has dementia, and the fourth is still remarkably hot, age adjusted.
There were kids everywhere. On my block alone, which consisted of 12 houses, there were 7 of us all about the same age, plus older and younger ones. All are det now except for two of us. One was shot and killed by the police, one was blown up in Vietnam, one was killed in a car crash, and two suffered fatal heart attacks.
The red headed girl across the street used to come over. She wore incredibly tight jeans with a good camel toe, had perky little budding tits and noticeable BO (deodorants were not a thing yet) which somehow was sexy. I wanted to fuck her so badly. I think about her even today and wonder what happened to her. I always had to whack off after she left. That must have been at about age 12.
Sometimes several guys would get together to jack off and see who could come first. We never got any gayer than that.
I also spent a lot of time reading, learning chemistry and making corrosive, flammable and explosive concoctions. I also got into electronics and ham radio and built and used radio communications gear. I had a 90 volt battery that I used mainly for its electric shock value. I actually talked one guy into licking it. Sometimes I would go to the library to read because it was air conditioned (and had books, which were in short supply at our house).
At age 14 I started a part time job, so that cut into my play time somewhat.
At age 15 it all ended when I started going to college in the summers, though I had adventures there, too. The first summer at college I discovered "heavy petting" with an older girl who thought I was college age. She almost put me in the position of having to drive a car without a license. Still have fond memories of her. She was a tall Nordic sort with big tits. Wide hips, too. Sigh. By the time I was 16 I had a regular girlfriend and was getting laid regularly. It was deluxe. Fond memories.

couldn’t afford camp or any sporting things (if they even existed)
best was going ghetto camping 3-4 a year with a bunch of families (we had electricity and water hookups, and there were common showers and bathrooms
hanging around doing hoodrat shit until whenever
we were pretty free but looking back it wasn’t fun enough to have some major nostalgia for

My best summers as a kid were the years I went to summer day camp because both my parents worked during the week
Played sports all morning, played board games and video games in the afternoon. Never thought about anything but play. Never any worries or concerns. Was friends with everyone, we all had everything in common. It was run by college kids as a summer job and the guys were all cool chads who we looked up to and who would help organize the sports and games and the girls were all pretty and feminine and would dote on us and make us snacks and stuff. Obviously every single person was white
When I think about what I would want life to be like under Nietzsche's Eternal Recurrence idea - if you had to live life over and over again, how would you do it and what would it be like - I think that's what I would want. To live that life forever, over and over. Every single day I woke up excited to go to day camp and every single night I went to bed tired and happy and content. I've experienced a lot of good times as an adult but never anything that has come close to living that life

It's very possible that our generation's childhood lives were the best lives that any human beings have ever lived in our species history. Not an exaggeration
As an adult I now recognize that modern decadence has been a mistake and has led to our downfall. But as children during that era, we didn't have to experience any of the downsides. It was as close to a utopia as humans can get. Unfathomable material wealth and comfort, safety, homogeneity, freedom of movement and action, lack of any material or social pressures or concerns or worries
Even the highest king or warlord of the past never lived a life as amazing as we did as children. I will always be grateful for what we were given. It's important to remember how good things can be. Bad people will always try to make you believe that things cannot ever be good but it's a lie

I grew up in a neighborhood where there was no social interaction at home. Our house was on about 2.5 wooded acres and there were other kids around, but it was far away, and I had one friend I would go to his house, but only on Saturdays and I would stay the whole day and then eat dinner over there. The walk back was maybe 1/3 of a mile but it was through the woods. I was actually scared to go on the blacktop road because people would race up and down those and there was a story about how one of our neighbors went jogging on the road and she was attacked and raped when she was a teenager, so my mom didn't want me on the road anyway.
We lived there until I was in 3rd grade. I remember that for about 1 week each summer, my mom would take off work and we would go somewhere in the car for a vacation. Either the mountains or to the beach. During this time, my summers were spent mostly in the woods, by myself. I also spent a lot of time down in the basement, alone. There was nothing down there but junk. No TV, no games, no couch. It wasn't like that. It was boxes of crap and scrap wood and old paint cans and used up fluorescent tubes. Sometimes I would pull up the lattice under the deck and go hide out under there in the middle of summer. I remember one time I saw a scorpion and it scared me so I ran out of there as fast as I could.
When we moved, it got a bit stranger. We moved into tract housing and the summer weather was really unbearable. At this point in time, my mom wouldn't let me just run around feral while she was at work, so I would have to go to the YMCA "Day Camp." This lasted from about 3rd grade to 5th grade. These camps were horrible. We were outside all day and it was too fucking hot. Most of the time was spent sitting on the bleachers in the shade and going to the water cooler for a drink every 15 minutes.
I would also spend a lot of time at relatives houses during the summer. In fact, I spent weeks and weeks at a time in Raleigh, NC as a kid. My days would basically be I would wake up and read novels--stuff like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, classic literature like Moby Dick, Frankenstein, etc. I would read these books during the day. Then I would go out in the evenings and go to the Wake County Public Library in Cameron Village and get a new book to read for the next couple of days. I would also go places like to NCSU or to the Rose Garden. Just walked around in the evenings.
As I got older, I just read more and more. Starting in high school I would mow the grass and play frisbee golf, and stuff like that. Mess around on the computer.
I never had any close friends that I would go see in the summer. My life was completely divorced from my school life. I would see all those people for the first time when school started up again in the fall. Summers were a time of isolation. Of self reflection. Of self improvement even. They were an asocial time.

As a kid, we would ride our bikes over to the local college campus. They had a video game arcade there (which was super exciting in the days before consoles), plus it was fun to explore. We would also sometimes ride our bikes to the mini-market near campus that sold gum, candy, and baseball cards. At night, we would play "kick the can" with other kids on the street. We sometimes played football in the neighbor's backyard. (One kid I used to play actually had a fairly long NFL career. Not flame. I like to tell people that I repeatedly flattened an NFL tight end, which is technically a true statement. I don't mention the fact that I was 10 and he was around 7.)
Also, there was an irrigation canal that flowed near my house. My parents would sometimes drive us up to the start of the canal and let us float home on inner tubes. It was 180^180. Basically like a lazy river at a water park, except it was free, lasted an hour, and you got to float through all kinds of cool places that we would otherwise never get to see. Sadly, they have now put up fencing so that you can't do that any more. When I last visited my home town, I offered to provide "adult supervision" for my nieces and nephews if they wanted to do the same thing, but it is no longer possible.
I also went to some local nature camps and played sports. And my mom usually made me take some summer school classes even when I was young. But it was pretty 180 overall. I feel bad for kids today that are never allowed unsupervised time outside and spend their entire lives on their phones.

Varies a lot by age, but here are a few scattered memories:
(1) Spending hours upon hours for days / weeks on end going around shooting shit with various BB guns. I became an EXCEPTIONALLY good shot. I only shoot once ever handful of years now, but when I do I am an unusually good shot, especially with iron sites.
(2) Shit loads of sleepovers at friends houses. Often multi-day.
(3) Scattered sports camps throughout summers, but nothing more than 1 week (or maybe 2).
(4) Having summer reading and finding it EXCEPTIONALLY hard to focus. (High IQ ADHDmo). Would read a few pages and then realize I was thinking about something else while still reading the words in my mind, and having to constantly go back and re-read what I'd already read.
(5) Staying up late AS FUCK watching wierd shit on HBO, Cinemax, etc.
(6) Staying up late AS FUCK watching softcore porn on HBO, Cinemax, etc.
(7) In high school, for football, we had an offseason training program with a full week by week / day by day breakdown of lifts, sprints, etc. Did this religiously.
(8) In high school, absolutely DEMOLISHING food over the summer to put on some extra weight. I would always be at meat heavest in early September, and then by the spring I would be like 10-15 lbs lighter (played 2 other sports besides football).
(9) Coach Ryan, 30, all muscle, eyes burning, grips my hips, adjusting my stance. Heat surges. Locker room, empty. He pins me to cold tiles, lips devouring mine. I moan, his rough hands under my shirt, teasing, tugging shorts down. “Fuck, you’re perfect,” he growls, kneeling, mouth hot and relentless. I clutch his hair, hips bucking. On the bench, I straddle him, grinding, slick with need. His hands guide, bodies clash, gasps echo. I shudder, cuming hard. He follows, groaning.
(10) Getting sunburned AS FUCK every time I went to the beach or to a pool. Pretty sure I never used sunscreen until maybe my 20s.
