I am not begging, brother, I am asking. It seems you are saying “no,” which is to say, in a word or two, that you think you’re better than me. That’s okay.
But know this, I too have strolled the Patriots Path along the banks of the mighty Whippany River and I too have heard the call of the song birds in the trees as I strode beneath centuries old oaks at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and as I stood there, near the sundial, I peered across the great lawn and the parking lot to the vegetation covered fence on the far side, and I wondered “what must it be like to be one of those selected few, a cut above, a non-prole.”
I guess I’ll never know. My betters have stomped on my face and shrieked “back into coach you filthy prole roach!”

Your passage paints a vivid picture of a personal journey through the natural beauty of the Patriots’ Path and the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morris County, New Jersey. These locales are renowned for their serene landscapes, including the meandering Whippany River and the meticulously maintained Great Lawn of the arboretum οΏΌ.
The imagery of strolling beneath centuries-old oaks and standing near the sundial evokes a sense of tranquility and reflection. However, the narrative takes a poignant turn as you express feelings of exclusion and societal division. The mention of a “vegetation-covered fence” separating the Great Lawn from the parking lot may symbolize perceived barriers between different social classes or groups.
The term “non-prole” and the reference to being relegated to “coach” suggest a commentary on class distinctions and the longing for inclusion among the “selected few” who are perceived as a “cut above.” This sentiment echoes themes found in dystopian literature, where societal hierarchies are rigid, and the lower classes are often marginalized.
In essence, your reflection captures the juxtaposition between the idyllic natural setting and the internal struggle with societal stratification, highlighting the universal desire for acceptance and the pain of perceived exclusion.
