its funny how partisan radicalization has wound up entrenching the majority party. in the past you'd see a handful of minority party candidates win statewide races because they tended to be moderates. now they're more likely to nominate candidates that have no chance of winning. they'd rather lose than nominating a DINO/RINO.

IMO this is evidence that the country should break up. Or at least transition into a looser "federation" or something to that effect. The 17th Amendment has been a disaster in many ways.

With all that said, do you think that what you said is true in states like the Dakotas or Montana? I can't imagine the Dems running there are radical True Believers. If for no other reason than the population size is too small. But I also don't follow those places all that closely (outside of being Greg Gianforte's biggest fan.)

it's certainly not universal. especially in smaller states. however, they are feeling the pressure, which is why susan collins types are at risk.

i am (was) very active in my state's minority party (GOP), and we had a lot of success historically. however, around the time of the tea party it became increasingly radicalized, and we wound up losing a lot of seats because we started nominating candidates who were too radical to win a general election. what wound up happening is a lot of people switched D, even though their politics are the same, and now it's a monoparty even though the same ideological divide still pretty much exists.

i think the same thing is probably happening in a lot of states. however, this doesn't really bleed into federal races, because it's much harder to be a DINO/RINO there because people pay more attention.

Interesting. The Federal races take up far too much mental bandwidth for people and make a number of people insane, despite how little of an impact the outcomes actually have on their day-to-day life.

Citizens United was ruinous in this way. Every "battleground" (real or imagined) election has out-of-state billionaires pumping money to sway voters so that the outcome might help with whatever their pet cause is. But the ads their PACs run tend to focus on the most extreme minority wedge issues, thus turning a minority of voters into rabid lunatics who view every election as Life or Death.

Total fucking disaster.

oh man, you're not kidding. i've been involved in so many campaigns for state and municipal spots, and when you talk to people about the local dog catcher it's like "what's his thoughts on DRUMPF?"

i support citizen's united, remember that the case was about a movie about hillary clinton being restricted from release before an election. with politics bleeding into everything it's very difficult to separate money from speech. i mean, is joe rogan or jimmy kimmel not allowed to talk politics because they have a major platform?

a lot can be done to rein in PACs while still conforming to CU. but neither party wants it. they don't want to turn off the money spigot. in a healthy democracy this would be a bipartisan issue. if you support democracy and getting billionaire influence out of politics you would want that even if the billionaire is supporting your side. but that's not the way things work today. sad.

Fucking lol. It's really true.

The money spigot is the issue, really. The amount of fundraising that flows through to consultants who are just looting the system is nuts.

Someone I know who has operated around Texas GOP politics told me that the GOP itself will hype up the Democrat nominees for the sole purpose of raising more money to spread around. It's all a bunch of bullshit.

this is a huge reason im more of a "was" very politically active person. not the money specifically, but this type of bullshit overall.

what's really frustrating is the more politics has consumed our lives the less people are actively engaged in it. i always plead to people irl and here to actually show up instead of just poasting about it. however, its always the same people irl.

tea party, trump, sanders, etc have shown how effective a small grassroots movement can be to change things. i see all the fuentes types saying theyre gonna abstain until the gop does what they want. you *ARE* the gop! you can just show up and start having a real impact on the direction of your party!

this is precisely why money in politics is so effective. people are more obsessed with politics than ever but way less actively engaged. that's ripe for propaganda, which is also why people are more organically radidalized too (e.g. fuentes as well).

if they actually showed up they could not only impact their party, but it also would humanize everyone else. it's very hard to hate your neighbor when you know them. yet so many people are convinced that the half of the country that isnt in their party are evil and the half that are are saints.

It's true. And in most local communities, there are plenty of opportunities for a motivated person to get involved. It just requires some level of time and commitment. e.g.) local committees, chamber of commerce. I suggested this sort of thing in a blackpiller thread and the response from the blackpiller was to tell me that this won't stop jews from raping kids. And it's like...actually it might? At least where you personally live since you can exert real influence.

Politics for most people really is a total simulacrum. It's not real at all, but they have made it their God. Sad!

10000000%

the reason shit like that happens is because of a lack of public scrutiny. people have replaced being engaged with reading about it online 100x more. which makes the problem even worse because they get so partisan they never hold their own party to account. like when the birthday doodle trump sent to epstein got released and so many people claimed it was flame. i don't even think trump was involved in pedo island shit, but how can someone see trumps dozens of sex scandals, personal life before politics, etc and think sending a doodle of boobs is outside his character? if you believe that you're definitely the type that would have given epstein a sweetheart chomo deal because you're biased to believe the accusations are overblown.
