Public defender in a seedy forgotten rural area of central california. Gets to fight the man and make cops mad. Seems kind of cool and intriguing in a way.

I stole this post from oh you travel but couldn’t find the thread he made this once IMO.

hes like antonio banderas in Desperado.

when the shooting starts in the courtroom he nimbly draws out a law codex with pages embroidered with a bespoke platinum-gold alloy, flips it over to section 7.6-9.2 and when a masked bandito from the gallery sprays a volley of SMG fire, he blocks every single bullet from the mag dump whilst looking in the opposite direction, distracted by the hawaii judge trying to double team him. as the last bullet hits, he shuts the law codex with great command, and the last bullet ricochets back and pierces the bandito right between the eyes. he stumbles forward in a daze and topples over the rail and collapses onto the court floor.

the hawaii judge presses a button on his gavel, firing a single shot round. our hero is almost caught off-guard but quickly pulls out a tritanium bookmark etched with sumerian sigils. he closes his eyes. meditates. we are treated to visions of his neurons pulsing in his brain in sync with his heart beat, the planets suddenly align, a Boddhisattva materializes, luis is consumed by a tantric golden aura, chants "the way 7.6 interacts with 9.2", and underhand tosses the now enchanted bookmark at the hawaii judge like an offspeed baseball pitch. the bookmark intercepts the bullet, slicing it cleanly in two equal pieces that split away on either side of luis's head, hitting two unimportant villains that are barely even seen on-screen. the hawaii judge is entranced by this divine sigil and seemingly accepts his fate as the divine sigil slowly lofts towards his neck. it barely embeds itself. whoever is left alive in the courtroom wonders if it even had an effect, as the judge remains still with no bleeding of any sort.

for whatever reason, luis is also holding a barely unshealthed katana. after some pause, he walks towards the exit, and gently thumbs down the guard into the shealth. a gentle ting echoes through the court room and fountain of blood erupts from the hawaii judge's neck.

I used to drive to the porterville courthouse 3-4 times a week when I first started out here. It was a 40 minute drive, mostly on chill country roads. THAT place definitely fits the seedy forgotten rural area of central california description. Lots of kooky characters in that courthouse. It feels even eerier in the winter when you’re driving through the thick fog in the mornings.

Most of Visalia has a tame suburban feel in comparison

Over 60,000 people live in porterville but I’m sure 99% of Californians have never heard of it.

People are somewhat aware of Visalia because they pass through it on the way to sequoia National park , and and often stay a night here. visalia and Clovis are probably the nicest of the Central Valley towns. Not a high bar, of course…
