1. Mandalorian and Grogu are both great characters
2. The action sequences and cities look and move great, and they seem real and not contrived
3. Grogu is funny but they (mostly) don't overdue it with him
4. The plot is intelligible - it's not amazing but its easy to follow and has a couple of interesting themes.
5. Most importantly, THERE'S NO DUMB SHIT. There's no long senate lectures which invoke the Iraq war. There's no bad kid Anakin actor. There's no Rey learning to use a light saber with no training and beating a Jedi master. There's no slow speed chase. There's no fat Asian chick. The movie just rips for 2 hours without being bogged down by any dumb shit.
The critics are giving it bad reviews because it is much smaller stakes than a traditional Star Wars movie. There isn't really a huge plot, it doesn't tackle big themes or questions, and there isn't much of a character arc.
But Star Wars has sucked at all of that for 30 years now. Give me the Mandalorian in his cool suit shooting people, with Grogu and some other funny sidekicks, and don't try to subvert my expectations to be edgy. |
