When we do go to places like ice cream parlors, i try to remember that this is a fun experience in life and not a material amount of money to me - but its hard not to get the rage going for America when getting an ice cream cone with sprinkles is literally 2x the minimum wage. |

Date: September 14th, 2025 9:30 PM Author: Paralegal Mohammad (Death, death to the IDF!) yeah of course, we still do it because it's a little part of americana i don't want to deprive them of, but it's just dumb money. it feels like in the 90s most of the things we did were either free (i.e. sports, which are now mostly pay for play) or highly attainable for even the poor (ice cream, blockbuster, arcades, bowling, etc)
i gotta do the frostee thing, we haven't done that yet! |

Think of all the movies you can watch with just one streaming subscription. The value is so much greater and more convenient than going to Blockbuster in the 90s. Dairy Queen and ice cream shops are still cheap unless you're trying to order insane amounts of ice cream or you live in NYC.
People are always complaining about prices but the expectations are just so much greater. Everyone has to have a 5 bedroom house, eat organic food, and watch movies at Alamo Drafthouse. There are much cheaper options if people aren't always so uppity |
