if it’s a major program it’s basically a flashing ad to all the rising/hot commodity coaches that there’s an opening for them, start the talks early, avoid them signing massive extension or taking a lesser gig
if it’s a middling program idk. that’s a good Q. sometimes it does pan out. get the gears in motion for new season sooner.

If you wait until the season is over you miss out on the portal window for roster construction. So you get an extra shitty year 0 with new coach and new regime is up and running for year 1. Basically by giving up on current season early, you can start building for the future earlier
