Like at the time he went into hiding he hadn't played The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows in over a year of touring. I get that artists get sick of playing their hit and shit. At the Deep Ellum show there were several hits he didn't play like Sic Transit Gloria, Limousine, Millstone, Can't Get It Out, etc. If you watch the show on YouTube there are long segments where the crowd tunes out and is kind of confused.
Those songs you mentioned blur together because they don't have a melodic or lyrical hook that really sticks with you. The gap between his best songs and his average song is massive. |

It looks like this mini tour is set up to gauge how much fan interest there is. His Spotify numbers are excellent. Looks like show tickets are going for around $50 which is on the low side. Millennials are Poor.
I think he should come out with a new album next year, tour it, and see if it does well. I don't think he'd be invited to When We Were Young right now. Still too much heat on him. That may die down. I think majority of fans are ready to forgive and move on but Millennial rock fans are like the prime MeToo demographic and I think he's still got a lot of bridges to mend. I'm for his return but I think it will take time to heal. |
