There's nothing weird about it. My wife and I had this conversation when the kid was born. Halloween used to be her favorite holiday, but as she started becoming more based and religious she started rethinking whether we should celebrate it, which is a reasonable question to ask.
I came down on the side of wanting the kid to have the same fun I had, but at the same time, I've definitely noticed that if you walk into a store like home depot, their halloween displays have become more depraved and demonic every year. Neither of us thinks it's the "actual devil," but should a bunch of demonic shit be glorified and celebrated? So we settled on celebrating halloween in a wholesome way, and only with nice costumes.
This year is apparently going to be our first "trunk or treat." I didn't realize it was a Christian/church thing though. It's a HOA thing, although there may not be much difference because the subdivision is overwhelmingly Christian. I don't know how I would give the kid the authentic Halloween "experience" though, since the lots in our subdivision are 2 acres+ so you can't really do the standard trick or treat like I did as a kid. Would have to trick or treat in someone else's neighborhood, which is pretty trashy.

I don't worry about the origins and context of every little fantasy character, but this is not how I remember halloween being when I was a kid:

Actually the one at my local store was a lot worse than this. Like even the pumpkins look sinister. I remember happy pumpkins. We didn't have man-sized minitaur demon sculptures.
That other guy is acting like people are being crazy Christians for exercising some discretion over how halloween is celebrated, but look at what you get with no discretion. If you can't see a satanic subtext, you're blind.

Trunk-or-Treats have been a thing for over a decade now
IMHO it's better to embrace it as a supplement to trick-or-treat nights than to decry it

urban areas too blighted to let kids off leash
Suburban areas too unwalkable
Rural areas too hollowed out for a hay ride in the back of a pickup between farm houses
