There was a Beatles cover band that played in the beginning of the summer concert series for our town this year and we were sitting with some other parents and kids from my mixed daughter's preschool.
They started playing "Here Comes the Sun" and I asked my mixed daughter which album it was from.
"I don't know, Daddy," she said embarrassed because everyone was watching her.
"Yes, you do, say it."
"Abbey Road," she said and everyone laughed.
The next song was "Tax Man" and so I turned to her and said, "What song is this?"
"Tax Man," she said.
"What album?"
Without hesitation she said, "Revolver."
That's my girl. |

People don't understand that the peacenik stuff was like a 3 year phase where he was extremely high on heroin all the time and his brain was scrambled by primal scream therapy. He got out of it as soon as the real radical freaks wormed their way into his friend group.
He was a bit of a scumbag, but he was Trump-esque in that he was both a chronic liar AND the most honest person you've ever met. His songs are beautiful, vivid, and heartfelt. He didn't know what he was doing when he wrote half of them, but it doesn't matter. |

Yoko's performance art is actually kind of funny/cool though. She gets stereotyped as this pretentious weirdo, and she definitely was sometimes, but her actual art from before she got with John was surprisingly silly and apolitical. I like it. I think she is genuinely some kind of genius. She managed Lennon's money and made a ton (including by breeding cattle, seriously ). |
