Because the purpose of holding PMs has always been to prepare for a true apocalypse situation (currency becomes worthless, internet is dead so crypto is unusuable, lead + food + sex + PMs are all that have value) or to survive a full societal collapse (you need to GTFO ASAP and you can bribe your way out with some bars and/or take them with you discreetly so you're not completely penniless when you get to your destination or true Weimar-level hyperinflation hits). Aside from "ooo looks pretty me wear it" for gold, and silver's various industrial use cases which have only really arisen in the last 200 years, those situations have always been the *real* investment value of PMs.
Outside of the scenarios I just outlined above -- all of which could happen and you should prepare for, but none of which are "likely" to happen to any given person in any given country in any given generation -- people haven't historically gotten rich from speculatively investing in PMs.
(((Bad Faith Silvermos))) will turn around and pretend that I am saying "LOL you're a fool if you hold PMs." I have never said that. In fact, I openly hold significant amounts of PMs myself. But I do it for the reasons above, not because "choo choo silver train leaving the station we're all gonna get rich boys just wait two weeks." I literally don't even consider my PMs an investment, I consider them a hedge. I fully accept that I may die without having ever "made a penny" from holding them.
Contrast that with stonks, crypto, certain types of collectibles, etc. -- all of which I own, and none of which I would own if I didn't expect them to be significantly appreciating assets over the long haul (assuming that we don't find ourselves in a situation where my PM parachute has to get activated). |
