It arose from internet discourse imo. like game journalists wanted a word to use. A lot of the early organic use was from PC gamers trying to use a word that sounded lame iirc. |

“Gameplay” “Going gold” to refer to the game being finished with development Constantly talking about the State of Gaming Calling games “Titles” to avoid the ignominy of taking about games Wii Wii U Xbox
PC Nerds influenced this as well. They want Consoles to sound lame so they call them Consoles. Console gamers were only too happy to oblige them. |
