Basically, I had to pull a long-held administrative perk from a 76-year-old guy who's been coasting on it forever, creating a liability for us, and he's been throwing periodic temper tantrums ever since. Long emails about fairness, tradition, seniority, past favors (that weren't really favors), you name it.
He's convinced it's some huge injustice, but really it's just me ending decades of absurd boomer entitlement and incompetence now that I'm the boss. The whole team and higher-ups quietly resent him, think he should've retired already, and are on board, so his outbursts just land in empty air and make him look more out of touch each time.
The best part is how much he's spiraling: he went from "This isn't how we do things... I can't allow this" to "OK, let's move on and be collegial" to full re-rage mode ("this is disturbing ... cutting ... bogus!") over a 5-week period. The last email literally reads like a jilted 20-something texting an ex.
I finally told him, this decision is final and I won't respond to any more emails about it, and CC'd my boss. He's been silent since. It's pathetic, bizarre and at the same time almost amusing to watch.
