2 dead, 2 injured in shooting at birthday party in Carver, Massachusetts
CARVER, Mass. —
A man is in custody after two people died and two people were injured Saturday in a shooting at a child's birthday party in Carver, Massachusetts.
Police were called at 7:22 p.m. to Saint John the Baptist Club, which is an event space on Silva Street.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said upon arrival, police found four people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Benjamin Cowart, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Jalen Pina, 20, was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where he was pronounced dead.
A 28-year-old man was taken to Tufts Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, and a 32-year-old man was taken to South Shore Hospital for treatment, officials said.
"The alleged suspect, who initially fled the scene, was taken into custody by the Carver (police)," Cruz said.
Nicholas Meuse, 23, was arrested and is scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on two counts each of murder and armed assault with intent to murder and multiple gun charges.
The Carver Police Department said there is no threat to the public at this time, as this does not appear to be a random act.
The investigation is ongoing by Massachusetts State Police and Carver police.
