it's certainly not universal. especially in smaller states. however, they are feeling the pressure, which is why susan collins types are at risk.
i am (was) very active in my state's minority party (GOP), and we had a lot of success historically. however, around the time of the tea party it became increasingly radicalized, and we wound up losing a lot of seats because we started nominating candidates who were too radical to win a general election. what wound up happening is a lot of people switched D, even though their politics are the same, and now it's a monoparty even though the same ideological divide still pretty much exists.
i think the same thing is probably happening in a lot of states. however, this doesn't really bleed into federal races, because it's much harder to be a DINO/RINO there because people pay more attention.

Interesting. The Federal races take up far too much mental bandwidth for people and make a number of people insane, despite how little of an impact the outcomes actually have on their day-to-day life.
Citizens United was ruinous in this way. Every "battleground" (real or imagined) election has out-of-state billionaires pumping money to sway voters so that the outcome might help with whatever their pet cause is. But the ads their PACs run tend to focus on the most extreme minority wedge issues, thus turning a minority of voters into rabid lunatics who view every election as Life or Death.
Total fucking disaster.

oh man, you're not kidding. i've been involved in so many campaigns for state and municipal spots, and when you talk to people about the local dog catcher it's like "what's his thoughts on DRUMPF?"
i support citizen's united, remember that the case was about a movie about hillary clinton being restricted from release before an election. with politics bleeding into everything it's very difficult to separate money from speech. i mean, is joe rogan or jimmy kimmel not allowed to talk politics because they have a major platform?
a lot can be done to rein in PACs while still conforming to CU. but neither party wants it. they don't want to turn off the money spigot. in a healthy democracy this would be a bipartisan issue. if you support democracy and getting billionaire influence out of politics you would want that even if the billionaire is supporting your side. but that's not the way things work today. sad.

Fucking lol. It's really true.
The money spigot is the issue, really. The amount of fundraising that flows through to consultants who are just looting the system is nuts.
Someone I know who has operated around Texas GOP politics told me that the GOP itself will hype up the Democrat nominees for the sole purpose of raising more money to spread around. It's all a bunch of bullshit.

this is a huge reason im more of a "was" very politically active person. not the money specifically, but this type of bullshit overall.
what's really frustrating is the more politics has consumed our lives the less people are actively engaged in it. i always plead to people irl and here to actually show up instead of just poasting about it. however, its always the same people irl.
tea party, trump, sanders, etc have shown how effective a small grassroots movement can be to change things. i see all the fuentes types saying theyre gonna abstain until the gop does what they want. you *ARE* the gop! you can just show up and start having a real impact on the direction of your party!
this is precisely why money in politics is so effective. people are more obsessed with politics than ever but way less actively engaged. that's ripe for propaganda, which is also why people are more organically radidalized too (e.g. fuentes as well).
if they actually showed up they could not only impact their party, but it also would humanize everyone else. it's very hard to hate your neighbor when you know them. yet so many people are convinced that the half of the country that isnt in their party are evil and the half that are are saints.

Libs can't seem to help themselves, but 2026 will be about dis-satisfaction with Trump.
This tranny stuff makes normal people roll their eyes, but the guy still comes across as likeable, unlike Crockett.
