So the issue is that it's a he said he said and it went to trial and it was a 7-5 hung jury. 5 nos is pretty bad for the prosecution. And on retrial the kid who is now 14 or something said he no longer wanted to testify. So the state has no witness.

The deal to plead down to a misdemeanor was offered so long as Hoffman admitted guilt to the family and the victim. And the family said that to them was justice. It wasn't some federal prosecutor swooping in to wreck a rock solid state case. The family said admitting guilt was enough for them. The guy admitted he did it publicly, got 60 days in jail and was let out after serving 50% which is standard in the county. Hoffman got out and fled to Nebraska.

Voters aren't buying Paxton as Epstein analog. It'll fail miserably.
