Date: November 3rd, 2025 2:20 PM Author: Rollin' 40s Piru Republickan he's a DSA type and i think a few of them are effectively communist without really being aware of it so the concerns aren't entirely unfounded. regardless if you look at the history of the country you'll find that there have been many, many politicians in high office who are of a more economically left bent than mamdani is. i find his social positions more of concern than his economic ones. if you look at the actual proposals outside of a couple of truly radical ones they're mostly inoffensive. sliwa is offering some of the same stuff as well. and by european standards, it's all still center-right. |

Date: November 3rd, 2025 2:22 PM Author: Rollin' 40s Piru Republickan to historical illiterates freaking out about it: these sorts of policies inevitably win out when there is great technological change shrinking and morphing the job market and average citizens feel insecure about their future in the market. the industrial revolutions across europe, the formalization of it in the US in the late 30s and 40s, etc you'll also often notice that these reorganizations tend to bring good increases in national wealth and rising of standards of living after the fact. the lionized "jet era" of the late 50s and the easy wheeling of the 60s came about as a direct result of structural changes in the economy that took place under FDR. germany's golden age and great wealth came about as a result of von Bismarck; a truly world class thinker and administrator, trying to direct flows of wealth from the great spigots that opened up with the advent of the factory and coal wealth flowing in from the sahr and ruhr border provinces. and nothing he's offering is even that radical. i am not a mamdani supporter and would prefer sliwa win. what i am is a realist regarding what i've seen happening and described in context, with no small amount of warning, to not much avail. |
