Japan gets a cheaper Switch 2, and games that are geared towards Japanese kids like Kirby or Dynasty Warriors or Pokemon. They know what western adults want and they dgaf. They’ll make something we “respect” like M-rated ray traced AAA Zelda and like 800k of us will buy it because of our backlogs. They made exactly what western fans said they wanted in Prime 4 with superb graphics and they got roasted. Fans say it’s too linear but the same people would be looking up Hints online after getting Lost imo. Same people wanted literally everything to be Open World 10-20 years ago.
The last time Nintendo focused on westerners, they turned into a training ground for Xbox fans who would abandon them the following gen. Nintendo’s Dream Team was actually a nightmare. They tried working with Silicon Knights on GameCube and it did nothing to move the needle. And MGS:TTS ended up being ignominious.
Eternally Darkness only sold 400-500k btw 😔
Launches with Games reek of desperation. Almost all fans and armchair analysts think that’s how it works. The platform itself needs to be viable. It needs to justify itself with or without games. It needs to get developers and fans excited. Switch 2 fans bought in 2025 to play Games in the 2030s. That’s how it works. No PlayStation has ever launched with games. Every PlayStation won its Gen. n64 launched with the greatest game of all time hitherto and still failed. FF7 destroyed it not because of its qualities as a Game but because it was a technical showcase with Commercials. It only sold like 3m in the west out of 100,000,000k Console units shipped. Westerners saw the FF7 commercial and then PlayStation became a must-buy, along with Coolboarders and Jet Moto and Syphon Filter and Ridge Racer and RE2 and no JRPGs. |
