She got into UT Austin, just not the business school. So she went to ASU. But a lot of the other schools she applied to didn't even have UG business majors.
Why not just got to UT and do economics or stats or something? |

Her main issue in the T10 seemed to be that she was too poor and would qualify for too much aid so she’s a loss leader candidate and those schools don’t expect to get other good applications from her hs. But obvs you apply for a dual degree later with econ (or better yet something that makes you separately marketable and is even easier like a comms degree). McCombs ug is a way easier to get in when you’re in state assuming you’ve racked up a couple years of 3.5+ gpa which is not hard at all at UT, but they have to replace all the alcoholic frat chads who fail/transfer out to easier majors. I also wondered if she didn’t apply to Plan II bc she’s tailor made for it and it places really well into grad schools, so eg a Plan II/econ or business degree and a couple years at an Austin start up plus a decent GMAT and she’s a lock to get a top 5 MBA admit. She’s suffering primarily from growing up prole and not knowing other strivers who can share all these tricks with her bc their older sibling/neighbor/cousin did them successfully. She also presumably talked a big game about leaving Texas and all her peers expected her to get into a T10, and she didn’t want to go to UG with 15/25 kids who were in all her AP classes in high school.
