Economists and commentator have been calling for Powell to drop rates faster for over a year, but suddenly it’s crazy once Trump calls for it.

This is the same fed chair who (late as usual) failed to raise rates in 2021 as inflation was accelerating, leading to 9% inflation in June 2022.

Why does Trump never call on Powell to raise rates or keep them the same?

Do you think it’s possible he learned something during that bout of inflation and why, with upward pressure on prices from tariffs, he was hesitant to lower rates? And now with inflation prints coming lower than expected he may feel more latitude to lower rates to achieve the dual mandate?

IS IT POSSIBLE?

if he learned something from that bout of inflation, then he's incompetent. that was not only predictable, but practically imminent

he has more (meaning at least some) reasons to refrain from lowering rates now.
